7/7 Grants 6.5M 115L - busted

Up @ 5:45. Grants wind 21/25. On my way @ 6:45. South wind all through West Valley and from Lakepoint to GV. Great Salt Lake looked totally dark and frothy. I was thinking it's a can't loose day. Arrived @ reservoir to little wind, few caps and no other sailors. WTH? It's generally stronger at lake, not weaker. As John Freed and I say, when you go to GV you have to keep the faith. You may not even hit the wind until you are halfway between GV and the lake. Didn't bring my 7.5 so I rigged 6.5 and practiced slogging and clew first jibes for about and hour. Lake went totally calm by 9:45 and then wind switched to North. When I left at 10:15 wind was at least 7.5 from the North and dust was being blown into air from any of the dirt roads between the lake and the E/W road through GV. Had north wind all of the way to my house in Holladay. Bottom line I believe the front was just too close, wind at the lake was already pretty westerly and the shift to N was already underway.
