No more windsurfing gear on delta?

Hello all,
Is anyone concerned about Delta Airlines new rules for luggage? Is air travel with Delta and a windsurf board effectively dead?
The new rules state "If the outside linear dimensions (length + width + height) exceed 115 linear inches (292 cm), the item will not be accepted" . Even a compact wave set up will go over that, I measured my set up at 130 linear inches. I think 115" is nearly impossible to achieve! A slalom set up would be way outside the limit of course. American Airlines at 126" linear inches max is barely better.
Anyone well connected to Delta here? Any chance to revisit or review these rulesl? May be for a few select destinations? I'd be bummed having to stop flying delta when taking my gear just because of that.
