Windsurfing lessons in the Gorge

Postby JeffGerke » Mon Jun 04, 2007 2:22 pm

Does anyone have advice as to where to get windsurfing lessons in the Gorge? I want to take lessons to help get in the foot straps, harness use and jibing. I might be going to the Gorge July 22-27. Also I was hoping to find a place that rented kids (7-10 years old) gear.

Big winds, and a whole list of other companies offer lessons. Both to beginners and intermediates. Drive down to "the hook" or the HR marina during the morning and you will be able to talk to many different vendors.
My wife took a lesson through Big Winds and really enjoyed it. Especially due to the fact that the instructors were women as well.

They also teach waterstart, foot straps and harness use lessons on the east side of the hook.

three days of lessons there will get you a whole year of utah experience.

Also, TBA, Rick and I will host a beginner/intermediate clinic. Probably during July.

Lastly, it seems like everyone in Utah heads to HR that last week of July so there should be many Utah faces their to give you direction and help.

Tomorrow looks stellar. You could meet up with the bath tube crew at 7am. Grantsville Res.

Hey Jeff,

I agree with Josh, just head down to the Marina (actually called
the Hood River Sail Park), or the Hook (The Hook
has a fully enclosed shallow bay which is very safe), and get a lesson.

Just about everybody will have "children's" gear and instruction.

Here are some links if you want to schedule or call for info.

I know a couple of the Big Winds instructors, good folks.

Also, the ABK clinics are highly touted, and Isthmus (new to the
Gorge this year) is sponsoring them.

HR Waterplay, not too sure about them.

Check out our Gorge page for info on all the launches

If you get a chance, stop in at The Gorge Surf shop. They don't
have a dedicated lessons program (usually they recommend Brian's),
but you'll get to meet some real characters, and maybe get a wind forecast from my counterpart in HR ;*)
