Long weekend?? Sand Hollow / Lake Mojave

Postby Chase.Leibfritz » Fri Oct 19, 2012 2:14 pm

Trying to plan a long weekend to head for warmer waters. If anyone else is interested, the more the merrier. As appealing as Vegas is to me, If I could save driving the extra 2 1/2 hrs each way to Mojave, I'd like to go check out Sand Hollow, so long as the swimmer's itch isn't active. Never heard of that before driving by Sand Hollow a couple weeks ago. Guess the wind will be the dictator. Anyone have any experience at either location around this time of year? Best wind direction, closest/favorite watering hole, yadda yadda yadda....

Some windsurfers go down every year.
I've only been to Mojave at Thanksgiving time once,
Windsurfed north winds at Katherins area, stayed at Laughlin.
I've been told the kiting is better at 6 MIle on south winds.
I think it would have been good there all last week,
Craig used to do a Thanksgiving time period forecast for the area.
Some weather links in the weather section of UWA for the area.
Jon and I would have gone down this week, if the south wind forecast had looked better.

Jason Klein is interested as well, possibly Peter Miller. Jason and I were going this weekend if the forecast looked better. We are looking to leave Thursday afternoon and come back Monday-ish. Knock out half the drive or so Thursday night so we'll be down early Friday. I need to start planning on Monday and have a decisive plan to go by Wednesday. I'm going to keep an eye out over the next 3 or 4 weeks.
