Lincoln is a really spectacular kite spot this time of year surrounded by snow capped mountains and wetlands... Pepe and Jason K. were seen kiting beyond Sal Padre in the grasslands to the south. They should give us the full report!

When someone does something out of the ordinary or pioneers a new spot they get their name on it. I named Sal Padre after Salvador Geronimo because he always got blown down there and couldn't get back upwind. Or so we thought. Turns out he rides down there because the swell really cleans up and it 's just plain sweet kiting. Although I'm still convinced he found the place on accident. The body of water South of Sal Padre we shall call "Pepe's Pond". All in favor?

I was out helping a new person get dialed yesterday and just wanted to thank all the riders for being so damn cool. A lot of guys rode by and shouted encouragement and everyone kept a nice respectful distance which definitely takes some pressure off a new rider. Just wanted to say thanks.

What a fantastic day and I second the comments about how great riding Utah Lake is during the summer as well as a big thanks to Jason and Co. for really going the extra mile with the BBQ. Fantastic day, all around.

Would have been smarter to have the newbie launch you with the kite over the water for your safety and for proper demonstration of skills and habits he will need moving forward. As the thread that Sherwin started the other day (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8787) hints at, it's all on us.

And... at the risk of just bitching when it was a thoroughly enjoyable session- does anybody out there know maritime law when it comes to right of way? I am not convinced that many do because it seems that very few yield to those on a starboard tack.

John L and I thought this was such a cool perspective on the lake so we wanted to share it with ya all.

It does seem that no one cares. I notices that on a starboard tack, head to head near the Jetty, the port tack never moved down wind and so I had too. It's normal in head on situations for the port tack to bear off. Rules of the road help avoid a lot of potential collisions.

I also thought it worth mentioning that running up the boat lane is not cool, although the photo I took looks great. It seems to me a great way to get out launch privileges revoked by the park.
