Advice on Hypersonic?

Postby tomsmart » Sat Jun 04, 2005 11:45 am

I just tired my new 105 liter hypersonic at Pelican Bay Friday on a 7.2 sail. It shocked me a little about what a different animal it was to sail. It was easy to jib, but I had a hard time getting in the straps. Any pointers?

Hyper tips

http://www.star-board.com/forum/askteam ... 5516221439 two forums full of Hyper tips.

http://www.bluefinz.com has Technique forums or...

Buy Jim Southwick a DVD for his massive collection and he'll wax on, mentor you in the finer points of Hyperworld. I've seen him shock and awe Katherine's Landing, 5.3 North or South, riding the tail, ripping jibes. He likes his HS 105 so much he bought another one as an investment, or as we Starboardaholics say "saving the orphans".

Carl C rides his HS 105 with a massive sail, generates a jet ski like wake as points in any directions he cares to. His power style and skill at never entering a lull is amazing to watch.

You've sailed a lot of years, it takes a little time to modify your technique, but don't get hung up on not ever needing a nose anymore, or realizing the Hyper will eventually go faster than you've ever dreamed.

The 125 is easier to sail, more forgiving float, use the bigger fin beyond 7.5 so you don't spin out. Most sailors like the Hyper best with a 6.0 sail, light combined weight and lots of top end speed, plus a chop busting hull make it a magic carpet ride.
