skyline: fishing for wind

Postby matt dadam » Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:05 pm

Threw in the fly rod along with kite gear on Saturday. No wind mid-day so I drove 10 min down the east side to Huntington Cr. It is chock full of fat trout in crystal clear water... but they are wily suckers and this novice could not outsmart them.

Then the evening glass-off fired on the West Ridge from 5pm to 7 or so. Good powered 12 meter. Great day in the mountains.

Any anglers on here...? I'll trade beers and dinner for some mentoring :)))

Are you ever gonna let go of winter?

I remember Ralph would be fishing while we were waiting for wind at Sulphur.

I used to use a copper hammer lure and a spinning rod in the lakes,
just real it back in just fast enough as to look like sick fish.
Never did like bait fishing.

I have let go of winter and fully embraced the Spring.

NOAA however might be hanging on...

"THE AFOREMENTIONED PACIFIC LOW WILL EJECT INLAND AS AN OPEN-WAVE
TROUGH AND MOVE INTO THE GREAT BASIN ON WEDNESDAY. THIS
NEGATIVELY-TILTED TROUGH WILL PUSH WHAT COULD BE AN ENERGETIC COLD
FRONT THROUGH SOUTHWEST UTAH EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THIS FRONT
WILL THEN LIFT EAST-NORTHEAST ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF UTAH THROUGH
THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS WEDNESDAY. A POTENTIAL EXISTS
FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND A PERIOD OF GUSTY WINDS NEAR THE FRONT...WITH
SOME VALLEY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW LINGERING MAINLY ACROSS THE NORTH
INTO THURSDAY.

ANOTHER STORM IS EXPECTED TO FOLLOW CLOSELY BEHIND...WITH ONLY A
BRIEF BREAK BETWEEN SYSTEMS. THIS SECOND SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY PROGGED
TO TAKE THE FORM OF A SLOW-MOVING CLOSED LOW WHICH WILL BRING AN
EXTENDED PERIOD OF COOLER AND WET CONDITIONS TO A LARGE PORTION OF
THE AREA."

Coverage is still fine. The big winds from last week laid down a layer of dust (snow + dirt = snirt). Then some new snow formed fun chalky drifts in places. Bosco was covered in sled tracks so i didn't even ride it. It was all good fast riding on Saturday cuz the temps were well behaved. Buy some Zardoz "Not-Wax" to battle sticky snow... works great.
